Why do they say “it was a dark and stormy night” to set a “scary” mood?
Why not just “stormy night”? Is any stormy night not dark? Has anyone ever experienced a “bright and stormy night?”
Personally, I’d be much more terrified of unnatural and inexplicable weather patterns.
It was a hot and snowy day.
The sun beat on my face as the clock struck midnight.
Everything was yellow and zombies rained from the skies.
I’m pretty sure “dark and stormy night” is the least horrifying of these things.
